WHAT IS ANAPHYLAXIS ???

Anaphylaxis refers to Acute, Severe allergic hypersensitivity Type 1 IgE mediated reaction with the release of histamine and other agents, causing the capillary leak, wheezing, cyanosis and oedema ( larynx , lids , tongue , lips) in the body. 

WHAT CAN PRECIPITATES THIS REACTION ??

This can be caused by the number of agents varying in different individuals.
1. DRUGS - Like Penicillin, contrast media used in radiology.
2. Latex
3. Stings
4. Eggs
5. Fish
6. Peanuts
7. Strawberries etc.

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS AND SIGNS ???

The symptoms depend on the type of allergen and the system involved.
1. STARTS with Itching, Sweating, Diarrhoea.
2. May include Vomiting, Erythema, Oedema.
3. Wheeze, Laryngeal obstruction, Cyanosis.
4. Tachycardia, Hypotension. 

WHEN DOES ITS SERIOUS ??

In about 20 % of the cases, one may have no Rash.                                                                                                       
When there is more than Two systems involvement ( Skin/Mucosal, CVS, Respiratory system, GIT ) along with Isolated Hypotension (sudden decreased blood pressure with SUSPECTED ANTIGEN ),

It is an Alarming situation and you need immediate medical care.

THE CONCLUSION 

Anaphylaxis is caused by Many triggering factors as listed above.
Anaphylaxis can kill you if not treated.

Always SEEK immediate medical attention and call 911 in case of an emergency.
