There are two most common tests that are available to test coronavirus in your body. one is the rapid antigen that gives results within 15 minutes and another one is covid-19 RTPCR testing that gives results in hours depending upon the lab technicians.

Time for Retesting once you came positive or negative depends on the above mentioned two tests and also on your test results.

let's discuss it one by one.

SCENERIO WHEN U CAME POSITIVE AND WANT TO GO FOR RETESTING ?

If you are positive and want to go for retesting for coronavirus ideally u should first complete your mandatory quarantine period for 17 days as advised by WHO in its guidelines. If you are symptomatic and your condition is getting worse with difficulty in breathing, severe body weakness, high-grade fever, etc do take further treatment at the nearest hospital asap.

You can go for retesting if u remained asymptomatic and have completed your quarantine period for 17 days as home quarantine.

On 18th day u should opt  for Retesting with covid 19 RTPCR only after advised by your doctor.

SCENARIO WHEN U CAME NEGATIVE AND WANT RETESTING ?

Well if you are asymptomatic and went for testing and your COVID 19 RTPCR is negative, there is no need for retesting for 15 days, and can go for retesting every 16th day.

If you have any symptoms even after your last test report came NEGATIVE,  you can go for retesting at any time after consulting with your doctor.

If you are having symptoms and you came for testing at the hospital and doctors have done rapid antigen test that came NEGATIVE ,In this case doctors will take another another swab for COVID 19 RTPCR to rule  it out since you are having symptoms and test results for rapid antigen have more sensitivity and less specificity.

So the Conclusion is, if you already came negative in your RTPCR , there is no need for retesting as long as u don't have any symptoms of covid 19. And in case you are a health worker or antenatal the validity of rt pcr negative result is of 15 days and you can go for retesting on every 16th day.

And if you are already positive, firstly complete your quarantine period and if  you remain asymptomatic for 17 days and consult your doctor for Retesting.
