Neonates begin to develop their neck muscles and head control from birth. In the first few weeks, you may notice your baby briefly lifting their head during tummy time or when held in an upright position. However, this head lifting may only last for a few seconds and be quite wobbly.

As your baby grows and gains strength, their ability to lift their head will improve. By around 1 to 2 months of age, many babies can lift their head for short periods during tummy time and hold it up at a 45-degree angle. By 3 to 4 months, most babies can lift their head to a 90-degree angle and maintain good head control.

It's essential to consistently provide opportunities for your baby to practice and develop their head lifting skills, such as tummy time and chest-to-chest time. Remember that each baby develops at their own pace, and some may take longer to achieve these milestones. If you have concerns about your baby's progress or development, consult your pediatrician for guidance and support.
